Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) Training
The Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) training class is a two-day learning experience that provides students a full immersion into Agile principles and the concepts and practices that define the Scrum framework.
The class is presented in a highly interactive and collaborative format with elements of lecture, classroom discussion, exercises, games, simulations, and video interwoven throughout the class.
Upon completion of the class, students will be eligible to take the Certified ScrumMaster evaluation and become Certified ScrumMasters. This course also allows the students to claim 14 Project Management Institute (PMI) Professional Development Units (PDUs) which can be applied to Project Management Professional (PMP) and PMI-Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) certifications.
Who Should Attend
This course is appropriate for all members of the project team including developers, testers, analysts, project managers, etc. This course is also great for functional managers and executives who are interested in Agile methodologies and process improvement.
Course Outline
Upon completion of this course, students will have been exposed to:
- Agile and Scrum definitions
- Environments that may or may not benefit from Scrum
- Scrum roles (ScrumMaster, Product Owner, Scrum Development Team)
- Prioritizing goals and developing in an iterative environment
- The traditional Project Manager role compared to the ScrumMaster role
- Transparency, Inspection, and Adaptation
- Scrum meetings (planning meeting, daily meeting, iteration review, iteration retrospective)
- Scrum artifacts
- Continuous improvement
- Estimating, planning, and metrics in Scrum
- Scaling Scrum
About Your Trainers
Richard Cheng, Managing Consultant at Excella Consulting, provides consulting services to commercial and federal clients in the Washington, DC area. Richard coaches, mentors, and trains clients in understanding and implementing Agile and Scrum. He also leads Excella’s Agile Center of Excellence.
A graduate of Virginia Tech, Richard has authored several publications on project management, presented at Agile and PMI sponsored industry events, is a member of Mensa, and holds certifications including Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) and Project Management Professional (PMP). Richard is a founder and on the executive committee of the Agile Defense Adoption Proponents Team (ADAPT).
Angela Johnson is a Trainer and Coach providing education consulting services to clients across the United States adopting Scrum/Agile. Angela has successfully implemented Scrum/Agile principles in a variety of projects from web-based applications to enterprise level retail and financial projects. As a Trainer, Angela provides students with foundational knowledge and tools needed to begin adopting Scrum, Agile, Kanban, etc. As a Coach, Angela mentors clients at all levels in their Scrum/Agile transformation working with teams, managers, stakeholders and executives.
A graduate of Hamline University (B.A.) and the University of St. Thomas (M.B.C.), Angela has presented at university sponsored events as well as at the Project Management Institute (PMI) Minnesota chapter events and to the Twin Cities Quality Assurance Association. Angela is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) and an Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP). Angela facilitates the PMI Minnesota Agile Local Interest Group and is also an active member of the Scrum Alliance, and Agile Alliance.
Price, Date, and Location
The registration fee for this two-day course is $1,300 (inclusive of all taxes and fees). You may pay online via credit card or request that Excella invoice you if you have an existing billing arrangement with Excella.
Registration is now open. Classes on both days will take place from 9am – 5pm at Excella Consulting in the Navy League Building at 2300 Wilson Boulevard, in Arlington, Virginia (located at the Courthouse Metro stop on the Orange Line). Parking is available in the Navy League Building and will be validated. Light breakfast will be available at 8:30am each day and lunch will also be provided.
Cancellation Policy
Students submitting cancellation requests 5 business days or more prior to the start of the course are entitled to a full refund. Students submitting cancellation requests less than 5 business days prior to the start of the course will be issued credit toward a future Excella training course. The credit will be equal to the amount paid for the initial course less any applicable fees. Should the organizer cancel the course for any reason, each registered students will be refunded 100% of the registration cost he/she paid.
